怎樣才是一份好的筆記？(version 1.0)

從事教育事業已有好些年日，不喜歡因循，

於是我重新思考這個問題，反正未有定論，

於是我用「平時分」要求全體學生由零開始交出一手筆記。

首先，我訂了一些「可計分準則」

1. 準時交筆記（因為我會悉數Scan落電腦，那是為行政上的節省時間）
2. 用指定單行紙（試過用其他紙而令Scanner食紙，也是為行政上的節省時間）
3. 完整個人資料，包括著作人、班別班號、日期、學科
4. 在當眼處清晰顯示該課「主題」及「副題」
5. 充足的個案例題（有感這一代不多能夠由「定義」或「公式」去演譯）
6. 清楚標示「technical term(s)」，必要時附加註解或圖解
7. 能有效運用顏色作不同用途
8. 驟眼望去，字體端正（最低限度要清楚，可能受個人閱卷的經驗所限，對傾向使用斜體字的學生，我會較花精力評卷）
9. 個人心得（可以是「學生自問自答的問題」、「技巧上的步驟」、「給自己的貼士」等）
10. 令人意外的驚喜（我相信天外有天，我上述設計的原則總會有未能欣賞到的好處，就用這個作加分）

是故每項 0 或 10 分，一份「十全筆記」這樣就有初型。

執行上不都是無「挑戰」的，

有學生直接了當問：「筆記不是給自己看嗎？」

（印象中是在我闡述第八項後馬上在座位發問）

我個人是同意！他/她說對了事實的一部份。只不過，

風格可以保留，但不會完全不變。尤其是「字體」，

在考試主導，答卷上的字體凌亂，分明跟閱卷員對著幹。

如果有相關行動研究，可訪談大量閱卷員（不論校外校內），

「斜體字或正體字，閱卷時哪個較花精力？」、

「怎樣的書寫字體較為順眼？」等等。

風格可以保留，但不會完全不變。

可以是透過互相模仿而改進的。

合用的筆記就是好的筆記，

因人而異，因時而異。（所以沒有最好）

除以上十項「可計分準則」，

還有更加多是「不可量度的變數」，

那可以是受限於我用的例子、重點位，

何時引入哪些重點等，還是果句，

教學是一門藝術，你我可以有無限的可能性，

在漫長的數學學習路上，有如進行藝術創作，

沒有完全相同的法則。

早幾年還懷疑如何讓老師相信 Palm 怎樣走進課室，
豈料 angry bird、myTV.com、candy crush 等浪潮，
今時今日你看地鐵車廂有多少人手裡不在使用智能手機？
未來世界使用電子教學的效應值(effect size)，可謂相當具潛力。

1. 開創自己的PLN（Personal learning network 或 Professional learning network 或其他？）：一不止於校內同儕協作，網絡令你有效求教，借橋又得，延伸課堂討論亦得，從今天起，習慣更新你的Facebook/Twitter/Google+/Learnist...
2. 建立真實關係：除知道網名外多作進一步交流，或是借電郵仿傚 Fermat 和 Pascal 書信談論數學，在現實世界做你朋友的好朋友。
3. 清楚哪裡用得著科技：給自己照肺，15 秒內想不到某科技怎麼幫助你，放手吧！
4. 懂得找有用資源：本地除了數學真魅，還有這裡、這裡及這裡，你可以試試看 Google Reader 之類的社群資訊軟體。裡面未必以教育資訊為主，但這些工具能讓教師緊貼潮流。（編者按：其實我較喜歡看１００毛）
5. 管理好你在網絡的名聲：別在不同地方留下你足跡。（編者按：早前我開了近十個不同的Blog 及 Album，現在保持更新的就只是這裡）
6. 正確使用部落格：一言既出，幾乎不可能被刪掉，總之，文責自負。
7. 慢下來：除了快思，多一些慢想，雖知學生的印象不是一時三刻才建構。
8. 主導你的網上群組：別為上網而上網（除非你真的閒暇），時間用光了，得不嚐失。
9. 別怕失敗：補充第三點，過程中難免有不完美的地方（譬如筆者今年大膽番新校內的工作紙及引入新的教學工具，也收到不少意見）嘗試，別怕你的學生挑剔，只消下次做得更好。
10. 明白何時離線：別等精力耗盡才曉得關機，上述各點是學不完的功課。

淺談數學文明(1)

最近不知不覺，上堂講多了些數學史。
關於數學史與數學教學之關聯，
我很羨慕彼岸的氛圍。
是故，我試用一個比較潮的方法，
介紹微積分問世前的數學文明
好激發大家的思考。

內容絕不嚴謹！畢竟我在大學修數學史也不是很高分，看過作罷！

淺談「負負得正」（下）

前言：錯過了黃毅英老師主講的機會，幸好有人替我取了教育局「數學百子櫃系列（十四）」，那是關於中小學數學教師的所需數學知識。面剛好提及負負得正，今日只是重新探討。

「點解『負負得正』既？」（一個來自小五生的問題）
「你玩過UNO嗎？」（嗯！）
「若你同時出兩隻 Reverse，接下來會怎樣？」（繼續不變囉）
「即下一個出牌啦，對不對？」（嗯！）

在等巴士的時間，
在沒有知悉對方先備知識的情況下，
這樣無咩學術味道，他看來似明非明，
至少他的好奇心暫時被滿足了...

如果你是數學老師，
有志在數學堂大展拳腳（好暴力~），
這個課題值得你再三反思。

若你問我，在接觸「負負得正」以先，
我會花些時間建立學生對「相反數」的認識。
若 $k$ 和 $+1$ 彼此是相反數，

即 $k+1=0$，

好比太極的陰和陽
，其中「陰」代表黑暗、寒冷，有「負」的味道！
陰和陽合起來則表示調和、圓滿。

再利用任何數乘以 $0$ 的想法，
即 $k(k+1)=k(0)=0$，再利用乘法分配性質，

現在$(k)(k)+ k=0$，

且看學生是否接受$(k)(k)$ 和 $k$ 彼此也是「相反數」，
也就是說 $(k)(k)= 1$。
倘若我們以 $-1$ 表示 $k$，

那麼，$(-1)(-1) = +1$

口訣：同號相乘變正數！

以上的演譯只用上 $0, 1, k$，
數學味道豐富，如果有學生問起，
不妨創意地發揮這個，至少對方似乎有一絲好奇心。
不然，用得上的口誦已經令人得意地全盤接收了...


歷史又怎麼說？

在《算學啟蒙》（1299）中，朱世傑提出：「明乘除法，同名相乘得正，異名相乘得負。」（作為炎黃子孫的我，用番中國的文獻咁啦，印度數學也有題及）。當然，更早《九章算術》中的《方程》也有引入了負數的「概念」和正負數加減法的運算法則。至於「符號」，我推介這個教材（也是歌頌強國人的好）。

若厭倦花精神看官方示例，其實維基百科的寫法已經可以接受：

在某些問題中，以賣出的數目為正（因是收入），買入的數目為負（因是付款）；餘錢為正，不足錢為負。在關於糧谷計算中，則以加進去的為正，減掉的為負。「正」、「負」這一對術語從這時起一直沿用到現在。

其實官方示例第 15 頁正正用這模式去探索，
對不知如如何入手就要頂硬上兼教的同工，
可考慮使用~

我或會參考黃毅英老師介紹的「故事模型」...

淺談「負負得正」（中）

前言：有幸能出席母校舉辦的「照顧學習差異與學校改進」中學分享會，也很驚訝學校多了很多美輪美奐的建築物，外表背後，我更喜歡周圍多了很多可以一家大小甚至孤家寡人打發時間打書釘的地方...

分享會中講者借「有向數運算」、「斐波那契數列」、「線性規劃」探討如何照顧學習差異。個人相信，令教育進步，普及知識是有效途徑。我來不及等講者回覆，便做了自己的有向數運算，另外我曾為斐波那契數列做了這個（我希望稍後再作更新）。歡迎數學教育同工下載及回饋。

有次，同事甲向其兒子介紹我是一位數學老師。
兒子：「你是數學老師？我想問點解『負負得正』既？」

當下我覺得嘖嘖稱奇，以我所知，
對方是小五生，正規課程鮮有提及。
再者，筆者相信那是很多同工一個棘手的問題。

再要命的，是當日我的正副panel也在場，
panel當時正站在身後，像是不以為意，還是靜觀其變？

如果我說：「你身後也是一位數學老師，不如你問佢啦」
恐怕大家不會有機會看到這段文字。我也有「妙法」拆招。

如果有一個門生一直纏著老師不放，人家問他原因，他說：
『因為他教數學很厲害囉！』這叫做品牌忠誠。

上堂一人一部埃ｐａｄ，我相信同工心裡定有疑問：
「學生會否趁機自己瀏覽其他網頁或用其他軟件？」
限制下載？取消上網？
其實我舊校當年claim自己係資訊科技先驅，
精英班學生一人一部 palm 上電腦堂，你沒看錯，是電腦堂！
坦言，我對這個無甚好感。
不過看了有線 Money Cafe 關於 e-Learning 的發展，
恐怕三年內埃ｐａｄ會走進課室（保守估計）。

最近出席某出版社的新書發佈會，
當中負責人硬銷其獨家的視像真人解題。
其實，類似的教材在科學科也有實驗短片，
美國也一早有 YourTeacher.com，相比之下，
感覺這個製作技巧粗糙，
畢竟製作團隊是教育界的人，如果情況許可，
其實可請教傳理系出身的朋友。

個人認為，為學生提供短片輔助是否必需？
我們不都是 Chalk and Talk 下長大的麼？
我們又會否把資訊科技奉若神明，以致為用科技而學數？

［改編］ 海賊王的數學趣題

話說魯夫戴著草帽，開著前進梅利號沿河逆流而上，
一陣風將他的草帽吹落水中，草帽隨水漂流而下，
但路飛卻不知道。

直到12:00nn，因為陽光太猛烈，
路飛才驚覺丟失了他心愛的草帽。
同伴們著他畫出草帽的圖，以便眾人搜索，
但路飛沒有藝術細胞，所畫的圖相當難看，
於是掉頭沿河下行，終於在 2:00pm 後找回他心愛的草帽。

已知河流的速率是每小時 3km，
路飛的草帽亦以同樣速度順流而下，
前進號以在靜水中航行速度為每小時 5km（比平時慢了很多？）。

問題是，路飛何時丟失他的草帽？


改編自引人入勝的數學趣題

培育幾何思維：從一節座標幾何課說起

筆者近日有幸出席教育局數學教育組的「數學課程學與教策略系列 - (2) 推展創造力」工作坊，當中提到「雞兔同籠」、「一題多解」等推展創造力的手法，獲益不需要多，能帶走一兩個，滲入自己的課堂，對學生多少總會有裨益。

這陣子正教授中三級的座標幾何，學生本身剛剛學會四邊形的特性、中點定理及截線定理等，我嘗試利用工作坊所示範的技巧，設計了一道題，歡迎同工下載及不吝賜教。題目如下：

給已知的兩個點 A(-2, 2) 及 B(3, 2)，
試寫出 C 點令三角形 ABC 成一等腰三角形。

這裡，我先容許學生以距離公式等運算方式（verification）作驗證，然後鼓勵學生能用幾何思維（geometrical thinking）去解釋答案。

題外話：曾經收到有一位學生問到：「其實畫圖就可以解決的數學問題，何必要牽涉座標去處理？」或許同工可能有不同看法，不過筆者很慶幸有學生願意提問，是故也點到即止分享自己對這課題典故的小小認識。

若你問我，在數學世界有什麼劃時代的知識（若以 Dark Ages 作分水嶺的話），可能大多數人會答「微積分」，其實「坐標幾何」也在當時同樣重要，就好似「鎢絲燈炮」的發明改變世界一樣。有興趣的話，我推薦項教授的網上筆記。

組合數學問題一則

"How many divisors are there in 55125?"

有學生收到學校老師的挑戰，如果係初中生，我會打發佢
「不如逐個列寫啦，或者一組人分工寫，應該唔難找到答案吧？」
（被毆打中...）

首先，我們可考慮 55125 質因數連乘式，
即係 $55125=3^{2}5^{3}7^{2}$

（接下來要小心理解...）

而所有可以被整除的數都可以寫成 $3^{a}5^{b}7^{c}$
其中 a = 0, 1, 2; b = 0, 1, 2, 3; c = 0, 1, 2

（即 a, b, c 分別有3種、4種及3種情況）

所以上述問題的答案是 3 x 4 x 3 = 36 種。

記得開這個部落，曾為如何撰寫數學符號相當頭痛。
授課員John曾推薦在下轉用Wordpress，
其實我在 wordpress 也開了地盤，不過我仍偏好用blogspot（情意結？）。

今次我嘗試介紹好些級數和公式的證明。

首先是有關正整數和（$\sum \displaystyle n$，即 $1+2+3+...+(n-1)+n=?$）的證明，
且看以下動畫：

接著是正整數平方和的證明。
（方法一，那是我在中學時用的另一證明）
由於，
$(n+1)^{3}\equiv n^{3}+3n^{2}+3n+1$
$3n^{2}+3n+1=(n+1)^{3}-n^{3}$

所以，
$3\sum n^{2}+3\sum n+\sum 1$
$=\sum (n+1)^{3}-\sum n^{3}$
$=(2^{3}+3^{3}+4^{3}+5^{3}+\dots+(n+1)^{3})-(1^{3}+2^{3}+3^{3}+4^{3}+\dots+n^{3})$
$=(n+1)^{3}-1$　　　　（為什麼？）
$=n^{3}+3n^{2}+3n$
$=n(n^{2}+3n+3)$

$\therefore 3\sum n^{2}+3\times\frac{\textstyle n(n+1)}{\textstyle 2}+ n=n(n^{2}+3n+3)$　　　　（$\because \sum n=\frac{\textstyle n(n+1)}{\textstyle 2}$）

利用主項變換，
$\sum n^{2}$

所以，
$\sum \displaystyle n^{2}$
$=\frac{\textstyle 1}{\textstyle 3}n(n+1)(n+2)-\sum n$
$=\frac{\textstyle 1}{\textstyle 3}n(n+1)(n+2)-\frac{1}{2}n(n+1)$

個人覺得，方法一略欠美感，
但卻還可以推廣到立方和及其他級數和的公式。
在此留給各位同學作練習啦。

內接、外接、外切、內切

翻看讀書時的筆記，發現自己所畫的內心及外心，
當然也包括圓外接三角形，以及圓內切三角形等...
大家當時怎樣區分「內接」、「外接」、「外切」、「內切」等字眼呢？

這都要由《幾何原本》第IV卷中的定義入手：
1.當一個直線形的各角的頂點分別在另一個直線形的各邊上時，這個直線形叫做「內接」於另一直線形。
2.類似地，當一個圖形的各邊分別經過另一圖形的各角的頂點時，前一個圖形叫做「外接」於後一個圖形。
3.當一個直線形的各角的頂點都在一個圓周上時，這個直線形叫做「內接」於圓。
4.當一個直線形的各邊都切於一個圓時，這個直線形叫做「外切」於圓。
5.類似地，當一個圓在一個圖形內，切於這個圖形的每一邊時，稱這個圓「內切」於這個圖形。
6.當一個圓經過一個圖形的每個角的頂點時，稱這個圓「外接」於這個圖形。
7.當一條線段的兩個端點在圓周上時，則稱這條線段「擬合」於圓。

書名前半句來自所有數學人耳熟能詳的典故：

歐幾里德是古希臘的著名數學家，他編寫了幾何學中很重要的一本著作，書名「幾何原本」。當時的國王托勒密，也經常向他請教數學問題。有一次，國王做一道幾何證明題，接連幾天都沒有做出來，就問歐幾里得，能不能把幾何證明弄得簡單一點。歐幾里得認為國王想投機取巧，於是不客氣的回答說：「陛下，幾何學裡沒有王者之路。」這句話的意思是說，即使你貴為國王，你要學數學，還是得按部就班地來，沒有偷懶方法或是捷徑。

記得我大二已經買了九章出版社的《幾何原本》，
影畢業相也拿它作為手上的道具，話雖如此，
但畢竟自己未有耐性把它完整的讀完，
「知識上知道」它只利用幾條公理，
就能夠推導出好多好多的新定理，
直至有次接觸這書，那時我剛好重新摸熟規尺作圖的各種技巧，
上了年紀，多了些圖畫的表達，
令我較易重新了解《幾何原本》的寫作過程，
即使只是蜻蜓點水的示範，已令我感受到《幾何原本》的威力，
令我重拾動力去再了解好些新但學校不會教的幾何定理，
同時整理自己過往幾何課的教學手法，
無論是老師或學生及大眾都值得接觸的科普讀物。

《幾何原本》對數學發展的影響超過任何別的書，它最初是手抄本，以後譯成各種文字，
發行量僅次於《聖經》。中譯本是1607年義大利傳教士利瑪竇和徐光啟，
根據德國人克拉維烏斯校訂增補的拉丁文本《歐幾裡得原本》（15卷）合譯的，
定名《幾何原本》，幾何的中文名稱就是由此而得來的。
他們翻譯了前6卷，後9卷由英國人偉烈亞力和中國科學家李善蘭在1857年譯出。
理論上，今日大多數的數學教科書的內容以至演譯手法都依據該書。
不過，該書最初中譯本缺乏圖畫，我也是看九章的中譯本，
輔以英文原版作參詳，但數裡天地網站有很清晰方便的記錄。
